I don't think the principles of animation were executed properly, What the animators could have done to make the animation better was to:

•  Make use of arcs, this would make the movement of the characters look smoother and more realistic. 
•  Make use of "ease in and ease out"this would make it more realistic when the characters are running.
• Make use of staging, this would help to control the audience focus with this principle the characters will not be fighting for the spotlight.
• Make use of exaggeration, this could have been used to heighten the character's expression as well as any action that could have been used to prove a point.
• Make use of secondary actions, this principle could have been used to convey the characters emotions.
• Follow through and overlapping could have given the animation a more realistic feel.
